DEARBORN, Mich., July 1 (Our Michigan Times) — Ford is recalling 741,195 vehicles in the United States because a transmission defect can damage the park system and increase the risk that some SUVs and pickups could roll away, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the automaker’s filing.

The recall covers certain 2018-2021 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator models, 2020-2021 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator models, and 2021 Ford F-150 pickups. The defect can cause the transmission parking pawl to engage while the vehicle is moving during certain gear shifts, which can compromise the vehicle’s ability to stay in Park.

Ford dealers are expected to update software and inspect or replace damaged transmission components at no cost. The NHTSA notice says interim owner letters were expected to be mailed Aug. 3, and that a final remedy is anticipated by April 2027. Ford’s recall number for the campaign is 26S48.

Ford said in its filing with NHTSA that it had received more than 200 reports by May 2026 of vehicles moving after being shifted to Park, failing to shift into Park or getting stuck in Park. NHTSA said it had also received reports of property damage and injuries tied to the defect, according to coverage of the agency’s notice.
