ANNAPOLIS, Md., June 22 (DC Times Online) — Maryland election officials removed Ian Andre Roberts from the state voter rolls on June 2, and Republican Delegate Matt Morgan said the case shows why “Marylanders have lost faith in our elections.”

State election records cited in recent reports show Roberts had been registered twice and had remained on the rolls for more than a decade. The records also show absentee ballots were mailed to him, and that he checked the citizenship box and signed registration forms under penalty of perjury.

Morgan, who chairs the Maryland House Freedom Caucus, said the delay in removing Roberts points to a broken system and called for audits and reforms. The caucus has also pushed state election officials and federal authorities for more information about how the registration was handled.

Maryland elections administrator Jared DeMarinis has said the state must guard against “improper cancellation,” a reference to the risk of wrongly removing eligible voters from the rolls. The reports do not say whether Roberts cast a ballot in Maryland. Republican Rep. Bryan Steil said the congressional investigation would continue.
