SALT LAKE CITY, June 26 (Brigham City News) — Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox ordered temporary statewide fireworks restrictions through July 5, giving the state forester authority to limit fireworks during the Independence Day period as officials cited extraordinary wildfire conditions.

The governor’s office said municipalities may still designate areas where fireworks can be used safely, but only in consultation with local fire officials. If local leaders do not create those areas, the state forester’s restrictions remain in effect.

In a June 25 press release, the governor’s office said Utah’s wildfire conditions have produced hundreds of fires, strained firefighting resources and created some of the most dangerous fire behavior in state history.

State officials said they will review conditions again before Pioneer Day on July 24 to decide whether further restrictions are needed.
