WASHINGTON, June 15 (DC Times Online) — Sen. Mitch McConnell was admitted to a Washington hospital Sunday morning, his office said, marking the Kentucky senator’s second hospitalization this year, though aides did not disclose why he was being treated.

David Popp, a spokesperson for McConnell, said the senator was “receiving excellent care.” McConnell’s office did not identify the hospital or provide details about his condition.

On Monday, Popp told CBS News that McConnell was “fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters.”

McConnell, 84, was also hospitalized earlier this year after what his office described as “flu-like symptoms.” Popp said at the time that McConnell checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation on the night of Feb. 2 after experiencing those symptoms over the weekend.

He was discharged on Feb. 10. After his release, Popp said McConnell was feeling better and would work from home for the rest of that week on doctors’ advice.
