SYDNEY, June 25 (World Daily Times) — Leah Stewart, who was attacked by a shark at Coogee Beach in Sydney on June 13, briefly woke in intensive care this week after doctors reduced her sedation and removed her breathing tube, telling her mother and partner Fernando, “I love you,” according to updates from her brother, Joshua Stewart.

Joshua Stewart said Leah had spent 10 days in an induced coma after the attack and had undergone multiple surgeries, including surgery to remove her arm and treat other serious injuries.

He said Leah is now awake, no longer in critical condition and able to communicate with family and medical staff.

ABC News reported that Leah was also reunited with her young daughter, August, for the first time since the incident. Joshua Stewart said it was the first night Leah and August had ever spent apart.
