WASHINGTON, June 29 (DC Times Online) — Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said federal investigators had made seven arrests and were moving to prosecute after damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., ahead of July 4 events.

Speaking on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends Weekend,” Burgum said investigators believe the pool’s liner was cut with a box cutter or similar sharp instrument and that the damage stretched about 350 feet.

Burgum said authorities had filed 18 police reports and issued multiple citations. Other public accounts gave different totals: President Donald Trump said six people had been arrested and seven cited, while BBC reported U.S. Park Police said five people were arrested and five others received federal citations.

A court filing by an Interior Department official said the liner was cut with a sharp knife or razor. Officials have not identified all of the people arrested or said what charges, if any, have been filed.

Burgum said fencing had been installed around the Reflecting Pool while crews and officers prepared for the holiday.
