WASHINGTON, July 2 (DC Times Online) — Former U.S. Olympian and canoeist David Hearn was indicted by a federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., on a felony property-destruction charge after U.S. Park Police arrested him near the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, according to court records and U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro.

Pirro said the government will try to prove Hearn willfully damaged the pool liner and removed about two square feet of sealant, causing more than $1,000 in damage. The indictment was reported July 2.

Hearn has denied vandalizing the pool. In earlier comments to reporters, he said he stopped there during a bike ride, reached down to feel a loose blue coating or liner and then walked away without damaging it.

Hearn told ABC News that he did not damage, rip, tear, break, destroy or harm any part of the Reflecting Pool. His attorney, Norm Eisen, said the defense plans to challenge the case.
